HERITAGE

Set within a century home in downtown Kingston, this bedroom was designed to feel like it truly belonged, honouring its traditional character while layering in cleaner, contemporary details.

Previously, the room was incredibly tone-on-tone. Introducing a diamond-patterned carpet and soft blue-and-white striped wallpaper immediately gave the space more depth, pattern and personality while maintaining the restful feeling we wanted for a primary bedroom. From there, we leaned into the idea of a room collected over time. An upholstered bed with silver nailhead detailing, warm wood nightstands, mixed metals, layered bedding and a traditional reading chair bring together different eras without feeling overly coordinated.

One of our favourite additions is an antique dressing mirror, whose age and patina bring something to the room that simply couldn’t be replicated with a new piece.

But perhaps the most personal detail is the artwork. We thrifted pieces by a Bermudian artist locally in Kingston, a special find for our clients, who are from Bermuda, and paired them with a depiction of Kingston’s Ontario Street. Together, they quietly connect the two places they call home. The Heritage Bedroom is exactly why we love mixing old and new. Not everything needs to match, belong to the same era or follow what’s currently “on trend.” The result is layered, restful and deeply personal, honouring the history of the home while telling the story of the people who live there now.
