We don’t want our home to feel like everyone else’s. We want something completely out of the ordinary.” So we did just that and couldn’t be more pleased with how it turned out.
Originally, the home had black and copper cork flooring, which wasn’t practical for a busy family with pets. We replaced it with luxury vinyl plank in a herringbone pattern – adding durability and a striking design moment.
In the entrance, there was a hallway between the powder room and kitchen island. We closed it off to create more cabinetry and privacy, building a spacious closet to store outdoor gear, kitty litter boxes, and extra table leaves. Above, concealed fluted wood panels hide extra storage, while the panels themselves continue as a warm feature in the entrance, concealing both powder room and closet doors seamlessly.

In the living room, a stunning three-sided fireplace cladded in smoky cloud porcelain tile becomes the focal point, capped with fluted wood panels for added depth and warmth. Low walnut-stained maple drawers on either side provide storage without competing with the fireplace, while a TV on the right and floating shelves on the left create visual balance. The neutral palette is grounded by a deep navy sofa, layered with a multi-pastel rug and soft pistachio swivel chairs, adding warmth, colour, and personality to this airy, inviting space.

The dining area features a simple birch slab table with metal legs and oyster-toned curved chairs that soften the space. A vibrant Birdgirl artwork with hidden cats adds personality, while the original twig light fixture brings an organic touch.

Open to the dining and living areas, the kitchen feels inviting rather than utilitarian. Custom upper cabinets reach the high ceilings for decor display, with walnut and light gray-blue (Silverpointe by Sherwin-Williams) cabinetry adding warmth and freshness. Unique spice and knife pullouts flank the cooktop, and the simple island with walnut columns is topped with granite tying it all together. A pass-through window floods the space with light, while a hidden pantry door leads into the laundry room. The bespoke curved microcement range hood and matte white faucet add a soft, whimsical touch.

The laundry room feels like a moody botanical retreat, with navy v-groove cabinetry, copper hardware, and wood-look counters. It’s multifunctional with laundry, extra fridge storage, and a cat pass-through, plus folding space, a hamper pullout, and hanging storage. A small-scale glass tile wraps the pass-through window, flowing seamlessly into the kitchen.

The powder room, inspired by Sunset in Paris, features charcoal tiles, a bold black-and-white veined porcelain vanity, and Venetian plaster walls with hints of purple, blue, and copper like a sunset sky. A half-circle backlit mirror, asymmetrical European pendants, black fixtures, and a stained window create a moody, elegant Parisian feel.
